About us

BRBAC has been supporting the Arts around Reigate and Banstead for 50 years, originating after the end of the Reigate Pageants which brought many performers together to stage large outdoor entertainments. There have been dozens of member organizations covering a wide variety of performing and visual arts and including groups from the wider area as well as those within the borough. An Executive Committee is appointed from the membership, with responsibility for budget and meeting the objectives of the Council.

BRBAC is not funded by the borough council, although it was responsible for distributing council grants to member groups until 2019. Running costs have been met largely from membership subscriptions.

As well as providing opportunities for groups to connect in various ways, BRBAC organised several Arts Festivals between 2012 and 2018. Initially these featured a week of events based in the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill. In subsequent festivals we added interactive workshops for children and adults, while the performance aspect became more distributed over different venues, running for several weeks.

Charitable aims and overview

BRBAC was registered as a charity in 1974, with the aims of encouraging and supporting local arts organisations and enabling more residents to enjoy and take part in the arts. Before 2020 the main objectives were summarised as:
  • Generate publicity for Members’ activities
  • Provide advice and information to Members
  • Provide opportunities to meet other groups at informal meetings
  • Involve youth in the arts
  • Develop our own activities
  • Support collective arts activities

BRBAC Relaunch

BRBAC Reigate & Redhill

BRBAC did not produce any newsletters or events for member groups or the public from 2020 to 2024. Although the committee held zoom meetings during the pandemic lockdown, and later in person, the loss of several members made it impossible to effectively pursue the main objectives, therefore no membership subscriptions have been collected

Discussions within the reduced committee have considered the options of winding up the charity, looking for more support from the borough council, or redefining objectives to be more achievable in the medium-term. We've decided on this last option as there appears to still be sufficient demand for publicity on our noticeboards and our website

We’ve also established links with other organisations that seek to promote arts in the borough, to see where there are still gaps that could be filled, although we would need more active committee members to consider anything extra. Feel free to contact us with any queries or comments or to be added to our mailing list.

The Harlequin Theatre - Box Office

BRBAC is responsible for two noticeboards in the borough where posters for shows and events may be displayed, next to Reigate Old Town Hall (Cafe Nero) and next to the Harlequin Theatre in the Redhill Quadrant

Use of the noticeboards has been free to genuine arts organisations whilst subs have not been collected. We plan to resume the previous system where only paid-up members will have access to the boards, together with events listings on this website.

Nick Landauer is responsible for updating the boards, which are kept locked. Please contact him via This email address is being protected from spambots.
